NHRS

Investments - Strategy

The New Hampshire Retirement System (NHRS, “the System”) Board of Trustees pursues an investment strategy designed to meet the long-term funding requirements for NHRS with an ultimate goal of maintaining a well-funded pension plan. To achieve this goal, the Board has designed its investment policy to generate consistent high returns over the years with an appropriate low level of volatility.

The Investment Committee manages the System’s investments based on the “Prudent Investor Rule” as adopted by the New Hampshire Legislature. The “Prudent Investor Rule” has generated consistent returns at the lowest level of risk over the years and is consistent with modern portfolio theory, which the majority of other public pension plans currently follow.

The current targeted rate of return is 7.75%.
