To NHRS members, beneficiaries, and employers:
Since the outset of the coronavirus (COVID-19) outbreak, the New Hampshire Retirement System (NHRS, retirement system) has remained focused on our mission statement, “To provide secure retirement benefits and superior service,” as well as on protecting the well-being and safety of our members and staff.
As we transitioned to working remotely, the retirement system remained fully operational, providing pension benefits on time, addressing member, retiree, and employer inquiries, and processing retirement applications – including hundreds of July 1 teachers’ retirements. We are pleased with the effort and resilience of our staff in continuing to provide the level of service our members expect and deserve.
Thanks to the collective efforts of government, businesses, and individuals – including NHRS members on the front lines as public health workers, first responders and in other roles – COVID-19 cases in New Hampshire have remained relatively low compared to other regions of the country. However, the need to follow the data and remain vigilant has not gone away.
To that end, the NHRS office in Concord will continue to be closed to visitors for the foreseeable future. We will continue to work with our members, beneficiaries, and employers via telephone, videoconference and email. While teleworking continues for the majority of NHRS staff, a transition plan is in the works to return people to the office, when appropriate, and maintain the correct level of social distancing and safety for all.
We believe this approach is the most judicious course of action and hope our stakeholders appreciate that this is as much about their personal safety as it is about ours.
Last month, we created a COVID-19 Updates page on our website – https://www.nhrs.org/covid-19 – to archive all of our communications and guidance in a single location. As we move forward, please consult this page for additional information.
Predicting what will happen next year, or even next month, is an inexact science, but taking prudent, responsible steps today can only strengthen the foundation for a secure, sustainable future.
Best Regards – and stay safe.
