CONCORD, NH – The New Hampshire Retirement System (NHRS, the retirement system) has added a new page to its website listing approximately 325 terminated members who left service prior to 2008 and whom NHRS has been unable to locate to return their accumulated contributions.
Prior to 2008, state law required NHRS to refund member accumulated contributions to terminated members after a set period of inactivity. The retirement system has been unable to locate some of these terminated members to make them aware that they have funds held by the retirement system.
The list is accessible from this page: www.nhrs.org/about-nhrs/unclaimed-contributions
A terminated member included on this list (or the executor of a deceased member’s estate) may initiate the claim process by submitting a notarized form to NHRS.
Since 2008, terminated members have been allowed to leave their accumulated contributions with the retirement system up to age 70.5, at which point the Internal Revenue Code Required Minimum Distribution (RMD) provision is triggered.
