For Immediate Release: January 9, 2025

CONCORD, NH – Employer reporting of calendar year 2024 retiree data through the Data Reporting System (DRS) is due no later than February 18, 2025.

Per statute, New Hampshire Retirement System (NHRS, the retirement system) participating employers are annually required to:

  • Verify that any “grandfathered” retirees employed by the employer remain in the same position for which they were grandfathered. Note: Retirees already working part time for one or more participating employers on January 1, 2019, may work a maximum of 1,664 hours per calendar year for as long as they remain in at least one of the position(s) they held on that date.
  • Report to the retirement system information regarding NHRS retirees on their payroll, including total hours worked and compensation paid for calendar year, or;
  • Report to the retirement system that they did not employ any retirees in the calendar year.

Written instructions for annual employer reporting retiree data are available for:

  • Reviewing “grandfathered” retirees who were employed on or before January 1, 2019, and, if needed, removing retirees from the list.
  • Reporting annual hours worked and compensation paid via web entry.
  • Reporting annual hours worked and compensation paid via fixed-length file upload.
  • Reporting that an employer did not employ any retirees in the calendar year.

These instructions are available at: https://www.nhrs.org/employers/employer-resources

In addition to the instructions, NHRS has a list of frequently asked questions (FAQ) specifically for employers that deal with reporting, grandfathering, and general application of the working after retirement statutes. The FAQ is available at: https://www.nhrs.org/faqs/faq-part-time-employment

Back by popular demand – Retiree Look-up Tool
The Retiree Look-up feature is now included in the DRS. This tool will allow you to look up an individual by Social Security number to verify if the person is a retiree at NHRS. Instructions on how to look up a retiree can be found here: https://www.nhrs.org/docs/default-source/employer-education/pgv3-upgrade/retiree-lookup-tool.pdf

Employers with questions about retiree reporting should contact their NHRS employer reporting relationship manager.

Note: Due to turnover at our participating employers, NHRS may not have contact information for all of your current staff.  If you are not the person responsible for this annual reporting, please forward this message to the appropriate person. New users can sign up for our email list at:
